A three years after release Of Chaos Walkingscience fiction film from 2021 directed by Doug Liman, Daisy Ridley she returned to the hard work required during filming and the director’s unconventional methods.
Starring Ridley and Tom Hollandthe production was troubled from the start. Started in 2017the process was marked by numerous difficulties including the change in directioncon Fede Álvarez took over from Liman for some filming. Despite an estimated budget of between 100 and 120 million dollars, the film grossed just 13 million in the United Statesbecoming one of the biggest failures of that period.
In an interview with Empire, Ridley talked about a particularly challenging scene: “Doug Liman works very differently compared to most people I’ve worked with. AND all very improvised. I remember feeling absolute terror during a scene where I played a character who can’t swim and I had to dive into a river with rather fast currents. I know how to swim, but pretending I didn’t really made me panic”.
Liman must also have put his own effort into it, as the actress states, although the idea remains that someone could have noticed in time that the screenplay by Patrick Ness and Christopher Ford nIt wasn’t that bright as it perhaps seemed. Despite the commercial failure and difficulties on set, Ridley underlined his love for the costume and wig used in the film: “We take the good from every experience”. A reflection that at least sheds a positive light on a project as ambitious as it is unfortunate.
