For its long-awaited big recovery, Wout Van Aert could not do better than 4th on theExact Cross de Loenhout won by Mathieu Van der Poel. If the Belgian Visma | Lease a Bike sometimes showed signs of weakness, he clung in the end to the wheel of Thibau Nys and glimpsed a place on the podium. But in the last round, WVA was unlucky, falling following a collision with a spectator and had to resolve to leave Thibau Nys et Laurens Sweeck grab the places of honor.

“When Mathieu accelerated…”
Starting in the lead during the first lap of the race, Wout Van Aert was unable to keep up with its biggest rival. “When Mathieu accelerated, it wasn’t good for me. I tried to come back, but it was too ambitious.” explained the Belgian after the Flemish race. “After that I had a good companion with Thibau Nys. We worked well together and were able to take over Laurens Sweeck,” he adds, returning to his journey.
“It’s a shame that I fell again afterwards. It was not because of Thibau, but because of a spectator. A second or third place was still possible. But I’m satisfied, it was a successful day. I didn’t expect to ride with them like that. Now I’m going to finish a good week of training and then it will be time for the cross country races in Gullegem and Dendermonde. These will be two very difficult races”, he then explained.
