Emmanuel Macron first thanked Michel Barnier for “the work he has accomplished for our country”. He then returned to the dissolution: “It’s my responsibility.” But he admitted that it “was not understood”.
“I will not assume the irresponsibility of others” insisted the head of state, who castigated the “anti-republican front” which voted for censorship: “Some oppositions only think about the presidential election, with cynicism and with the meaning of chaos”, accusing in particular the deputies of the National Rally of having “chosen disorder”.
No resignation of the head of state
Emmanuel Macron does not plan to resign: “The mandate you have entrusted to me is five years, and I will exercise it fully until its end”; he wants “thirty months of useful action for the country”.
He will appoint a Prime Minister “in the coming days”, so that he can form “a government of general interest” with political forces who would undertake not to censor him.
He calls on parliamentarians to find “a sense of compromise” and “responsibility”.
