Three departments in the south of , Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse, will be on red alert for fine particles on Wednesday January 1, as will the Arve valley in Haute-Savoie, where alert is activated. since Monday, according to the Atmo observatories of the Paca and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions.

Of the “anticyclonic and stable weather conditions (…) favor the accumulation of pollutants from human activities (residential heating, road traffic, industries, etc.) in the lower layers of the atmosphere”, with “increasing concentrations of fine particles”, explains the air quality observatory in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, which specifies that “air quality will be poor in Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse and the Var coast”, where vigilance was triggered on Tuesday due to a “risk of overrun” of the daily regulatory threshold (50 µg/m3) for the second consecutive day.

In the Arve valley, where this regulatory threshold has been exceeded daily since Friday, Atmo maintained its red vigilance for the day Wednesday until 1:30 p.m., awaiting the results of new atmospheric measurements.
