The tragedy occurred in April 2023. A couple leaving their wedding reception in a golf cart was hit by a speeding motorist. The bride did not survive her serious injuries. On Monday, the driver was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

A drunk driver responsible for a fatal accident that claimed the life of a young bride on her wedding day was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 27, spent the evening of April 28, 2023 consuming alcohol at several bars before getting behind the wheel in Folly Beach, South Carolina. She was traveling at more than 100 km/h on a road with a 65 km/h limit when she crashed into a golf cart carrying Samantha Miller, 34, and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, 26. The couple had just left their wedding reception.

“I would have preferred to die that night”

Samantha Miller, still dressed in her wedding dress, did not survive her serious injuries. Aric Hutchinson, seriously injured, suffered a brain injury and multiple fractures. The violence of the impact threw the cart nearly 100 meters from the scene of the collision.

In an emotional interview with ABC before the trial, Aric Hutchinson shared her despair: “The last thing she said to me was that she didn’t want the night to end. I kissed her , and then I woke up without her in the hospital I have no more joy, no more passion, no more motivation I’m stuck in hell I would have preferred to die that night.

“I would like to go back”

Jamie Lee Komoroski, who pleaded guilty, expressed remorse during the trial. She admitted her addiction to alcohol and her lack of consideration for the consequences of her actions. “I am devastated, deeply ashamed and sorry for what I have done,” she said, promising to dedicate her life to educating others about the dangers of drunk driving.

His repentance, however, did not ease the pain of Samantha Miller’s loved ones. The victim’s father expressed his anger in these words: “I will hate you all my life, and when I get to hell and you come there, I will open the door for you. You have ruined the lives of so many people”.
