Artificial intelligence is now almost essential. Arte seizes it to Prompta mini-fiction in ten episodes available from December 16.
It’s a small revolution in the world of television: from December 16, Arte will offer a mini-fiction, Promptwritten and produced using artificial intelligence.
The pitch for this series, made up of ten episodes of 2 minutes 50? The author asks seemingly banal questions to a conversational agent, Prompt. Where have my scooter keys gone? How to write an apology note to a teacher? Should we believe in our horoscope? Throughout the episode, the artificial intelligence’s responses are confusing and transform the dialogue into a crazy and sometimes delirious exchange.
In a press release from Arte, Jocelyn Collages – behind the series – explains: “the principle is to use artificial intelligence as a creative tool and not as a subject of exploration. A tool at the service of users who do not intend to be pushed into digital nettles. AI is disruptive, confusing, but humans are agile. It’s up to both of us to get to know each other at the cost of misunderstandings, misunderstandings and even relational accidents which are the spice of the series.“.
An original project which promises to highlight the infinite possibilities of AI in terms of storytelling and creation, but also to invite reflection. The creation of the series in fact came from a reflection linked to the use of generative artificial intelligence in art.
And ethics?
A method which does not please everyone but which above all worries, like the reaction of seven unions and professional organizations – representing authors and filmmakers – who are today asking Arte for clarification: ” We would not like ARTE, often engaged in the defense, promotion and enhancement of creation, to bear responsibility tomorrow for the erasure of the creative work of screenwriters, graphic designers, directors and the devaluation of their SKILLS.“
While recognizing the use of AI for work on special effects and sound, they raise their concerns: what will be the remuneration for the use of works written by authors, respect for their moral rights, impact on the artistic employment, future of human creation…
These professionals do not want to prohibit the use of AI. They wish “urgent clarification and clear commitments in favor of ethical use of AI in audiovisual and cinematographic creation which does not sacrifice the work and skills of authors of cinema, fiction and animation.”
Arte has not yet reacted to these requests.
