Lebanon: a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah
Renewed tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Just days after the conclusion of a ceasefire, both sides denounce violations of the agreement. This Monday, Nabih Berri, the speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, first affirmed that Israel had violated “at least 54 times” this truce signed on November 27. He called on the committee responsible for overseeing the proper implementation of this ceasefire, which includes the United States and France, “to urgently take action and force Israel to stop its violations and withdraw” of Lebanese territory.
Later in the day, Hezbollah said it had targeted an Israeli position on “the occupied hills of Kfar Chouba”IDF counting “two projectiles” towards its positions. “We promised to act against any violation of the ceasefire, this is exactly what we will do”declared Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, promising a “strong response” future. “The shooting of Hezbollah to Har Dov (the Hebrew name of the area known as Chebaa Farms, Editor’s note) is a serious violation of the ceasefire and Israel will respond forcefully. We are determined to uphold the ceasefire and respond to any violation by Hezbollah, from the slightest to the most serious.”for his part, hammered the Prime Minister of the Hebrew State, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Hours later, Lebanese state media reported Israeli strikes Monday evening on areas of southern Lebanon far from the border. “Enemy planes carried out strikes… (on) the surroundings of the town of Jbaa”about twenty kilometers from the border, as well as in the Deir al-Zahrani region, said the National News Agency (ANI). She also later reported “a series of airstrikes” near two villages located near Jbaa.
Faced with these accusations from both sides, the head of French diplomacy, Jean-Noël Barrot, insisted to his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, on “the need for all parties to respect the ceasefire”announced the Quai d’Orsay.
