Fez: Yet another bus fire a few meters from the Royal Palace

A fire broke out on Wednesday in an urban transport bus in the city of Fez, a few meters from the Royal Palace. The vehicle, which was traveling between the new town and the old medina, was completely burned in the middle of Place La Fiat, without causing any casualties. Fortunately, its passengers had been disembarked before the fire spread in the bus.

As soon as they were informed, the local and security authorities and civil protection services went to the scene of the incident to contain the fire. An investigation was also opened to determine the causes and circumstances of the fire. Note that this is the second incident observed in urban transport provided by the Citybus company, in the space of a few weeks.

As a reminder, an accident involving a bus from the same company caused around sixty injuries at the end of September. Accidents recorded on lines operated by the same operator had been recorded in particular in Meknes and Tetouan. We also learn that investigations are being carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of these repeated incidents. The president of the Municipal Council of Fez has decided to file a complaint against the operating edict for squandering public funds. Finally, let us recall that a damning report on the poor governance of the carrier had been established by the Court of Auditors… but has so far remained without follow-up.
