The youth team of Burgos CF is providing enough reasons for the Castañares stadium to be filled at every match, but it will be the visit from Real Madrid, featuring several future stars, that will see the Burgos facilities welcome a large number of supporters. The current form of the Blanquinegros combined with the arrival of the mighty Madrid side is expected to elevate the attendance on Sunday far above the norm. The visit from Real Madrid always brings heightened anticipation, and during Burgos’s previous stint in the top youth category, the Luis Pérez Arribas stadium in Pallafría was packed for the clash between the Burgos and Madrid teams.
It promises to be a match to savour in every sense. First, from the local team, which is enjoying an outstanding season, and then from some of the players in the squad coached by Álvaro Arbeloa. Many of these youngsters will soon find themselves in professional football.
Burgos is preparing to host a significantly larger crowd than usual and will strive to keep everything under control ahead of the match. Burgos subscribers will be able to attend the clash free of charge, while others can purchase tickets for €10.
With the Cup in mind, David Hernaiz, one of the captains of Burgos, stresses that “the match is coming this Sunday.” Ironically, he will miss it after sustaining an injury last weekend. Ismael Hernando and Hugo Sedano, the other two captains, are focused on the Cup and the potential to secure the Blanquinegros’ presence in the tournament, which would mark a historic moment in provincial football. The equation is simple: a victory over Real Madrid would leave the home team virtually qualified. The challenge is to create that perfect storm.
The Castilian team currently sits third in the league after 12 games. What they have already secured is survival, a goal they set upon their return to the top tier, and it has effectively been achieved from the outset.
No one expected to be in third place at this stage of the season with 24 points—”which have been hard-earned and difficult to come by,” highlights David Hernaiz. “The aim was to fight for survival and stay mid-table, but being third was unimaginable,” adds Isma Hernando.
Unfazed, Hernaiz states, “We are going to compete and give it our all. If we have been able to defeat Atlético, who also has great players, why can’t we do the same against Real Madrid?” They are aware that a vibrant atmosphere is guaranteed, which serves as extra motivation for them all.
Hugo Sedano speaks about “enjoying and competing” and notes that this season the whole squad is thrilled to be part of a league of this calibre. Facing them will be one of the best youth teams in Europe, with players regularly called up for the Spanish national team, and some have even trained under Ancelotti and been considered for first-team debuts.
They acknowledge that their achievements are closely linked to hard work, “with effort, sacrifice, and consistency,” as Hugo Sedano recalls. They also emphasize “the details” and the high level of competition in the category. “Any mistake can be costly,” insists Isma Hernando. They know this season is one to relish, but they want to pull off an upset and face one of the giants head-on this Sunday.
