A 4-year-old boy was fatally hit by a car this Saturday, June 29 in the evening while trying to cross a road near a wedding organized by his family in the La Bocca district of Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) .

A happy event that turns into a nightmare. A 4-year-old child lost his life this Saturday evening when he was hit by a car at 9:15 p.m. while he was trying to cross a road near a wedding hall located on Chemin de Bastide Rouge in the La Bocca district of Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes).

According to a police source relayed by Le Parisien, the boy allegedly “escaped his mother’s vigilance” before crossing a road to join his father who was in a parking lot on the other side. It was at this moment that the child, invited with his parents to participate in a family wedding, was hit by a car.

In a situation of cardio-respiratory arrest, the little victim could not be resuscitated on the scene by the firefighters, according to Nice-Matin.

Four witnesses to the accident, belonging to the boy’s family, were treated by firefighters then transported to Cannes hospital due to their state of shock. Two of them, cousins ​​of the struck child, even felt unwell when they learned of his death.

The driver of the car allegedly fled before reporting himself

According to the first elements of the investigation reported by our colleagues, the driver at the origin of the accident was “set upon by the crowd” before fleeing.

He finally reported himself to the police by telephone a few hours after the incident. The police arrested him at his home located in Roquette-sur-Siagne (Alpes-Maritimes) during the night. He was placed in police custody at the Cannes police station.

No traces of alcohol or narcotics were detected in the suspect’s body following tests carried out on him directly after his arrest.

Contacted by CNEWS, the SDIS 06 and the Grasse judicial court did not respond to our requests.

In total, 35 firefighters and the Cannes Smur were mobilized for this operation.
