Israel is investigating the fate of a citizen of dual Israeli and Moldovan nationality, who has been missing for two days in the United Arab Emirates, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said on Saturday, citing a “terrorist” lead.
“Zvi Kogan, an Israeli-Moldovan citizen, emissary (of the Hasidic movement) Chabad Lubavitch, has been missing since Thursday, November 21,” Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement. “Since his disappearance, and given information suggesting that it was a terrorist (episode), an active investigation is underway,” they added. No details were provided to support this “terrorist” lead.
In the statement, Mossad, the powerful foreign intelligence service, and the National Security Council said they were “concerned for the safety and well-being of Zvi Kogan.”
Chabad Lubavitch is an ultra-Orthodox movement driven by a global missionary commitment aimed at strengthening Jewish identity and bringing Jews closer to their faith, particularly through its community centers.
The United Arab Emirates is one of the Arab countries that normalized relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords, promoted by Donald Trump during his first term in the White House.
