This Sunday, at 9:10 p.m., RMC Découverte broadcasts a new, unpublished episode of the show Bring in the accused. This issue, titled “Dexter-style” crimelooks back on a tragic case that occurred in 2012 in Ariège, where two young adults, Cindy Pereira and Joan Gamiochipi, carried out a coldly calculated crime. A dangerous friendship
The story of Cindy Pereira and Joan Gamiochipi begins like that of many teenagers. Although they are both young, Cindy and Joan have very distinct personalities. Cindy, a fragile but daring young girl, joins forces with Joan, a brilliant student with a gothic look and morbid tastes. Joan even bragged about killing animals, especially cats. A worrying behavior which, at the time, went almost unnoticed. Their relationship takes a worrying turn when Joan confides in Cindy her desire to kill. For his birthday, Cindy gives him a macabre “Dexter” gift, a series which features a methodical killer. A harbinger of tragedy to come.
A sordid crime
On March 12, 2012, in Ariège, Cindy and Joan set a trap for their friend, Kévin Sellier, a 19-year-old young man. The latter finds himself at the heart of an ambush in a forest, where he is brutally attacked. Kevin is stabbed and partially burned. During the investigation, the two suspects came up with multiple versions: a break that went wrong, a theft of 400 euros, or even a story of sexual assault. But none of these versions is credible. The criminal intent is much more worrying. According to investigators, Cindy knew full well that Joan wanted to kill, and it was she who, through her behavior and her gift, would have exacerbated this murderous impulse.
A tragic conviction
In March 2016, after a trial that shook the region, the Ariège Assize Court sentenced the evil duo to 25 years of criminal imprisonment. Joan Gamiochipi saw her sentence upheld on appeal, while that of Cindy Pereira was reduced by three years. The affair, marked by incredible violence and unexplained motivations, revealed the depth of the depravity of the two young adults. They acted in a cold and calculated manner, without remorse or hesitation, leaving behind a helpless victim.
