Toni Storm surprised fans by announcing – clearly in fashion storyline – that she is retiring from the ring.
Storm maintains – in the tone borrowed by her wrestling character – that her recent defeat against Mariah May, who betrayed her to eventually become AEW world champion, weighed in the balance.
In an interview for SBNation, Storm mentioned that she has no desire to make other appearances as a wrestler, not being used to losing and suffering failure.
“I’m not used to being a loser. I’ve failed at everything. I lost in AEW, I lost in Japan, I lost in Mexico.”
Storm adds that AEW can do without her.
“This is the last you’ll hear from me again. Enjoy Mariah May as your champion. You can all enjoy that. AEW is just fine without me. Everything is going well for AEW. They don’t need Toni Storm.”
We should still expect Storm to return soon, as quickly as Full Gear on Saturday night. She could thus spoil the celebrations for Mariah May, who will have Mina Shirakawa by her side.
