Accused of murder, Steeve Gilbert will remain detained until his trial

Gilbert made the gesture Thursday morning, while appearing by videoconference at the Sherbrooke courthouse before Judge Alexandre Tardif.

He was initially scheduled to appear in the Court of Quebec for his release inquiry for his charges of armed assault and breach of conditions.

However, the DPCP prosecutor Louis Fouquet and the accused’s lawyer, Morgane Laloum, explained that the latter had given up on this investigation, after which Judge Tardif had no other choice than to declare him detained until ‘at the end of the procedures.

However, the Court of Quebec did not have jurisdiction to conduct the investigation into release in connection with the charge of second degree murder against the Sherbrooke resident. Steeve Gilbert could have asked the Superior Court to conduct such an investigation into this matter, but did not do so.

The case will return to court on July 5 to set the date for the accused’s preliminary investigation.

Remember that on January 25, the police were called to Gillespie Street for a report of stabbing. The investigation was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec. The Office of Independent Investigations (BEI) is also trying to shed light on the events.

Following this event, Steeve Gilbert was charged with second degree murder, breach of conditions and assault with a weapon.
