When he was only 12 years old, the prince Harry was forced to continue his life without his mother, princess diana, died tragically in August 1997 in France. The grandson of Queen Elizabeth II took a while to accept this twist of fate, as he revealed in an interview with Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Long suppressed feelings

“It is very difficult to lose someone when you are a child,” began the second son of Charles III to Nikki Scott, founder of the association which helps the children of soldiers who have lost a parent. “At first, we convince ourselves that the person we lost would want us to be as sad as possibleas long as possible, to prove to her that we miss her. Then we realize that actually no, she would have wanted us to be happy.”

Evoking his emotions has long been a penance for Prince Harry. Until he understood the importance of it. “Once I realized that if I talked about it, I especially celebrated his life, things have become easier,” he stressed about his grief after the death of his mother. “You cannot suppress your sadness indefinitely.
