A gendarmerie investigation was opened by the Calvados gendarmes in order to shed light on the circumstances of the road accident which cost the life of Thierry Olewski on June 6, in the town of Manoir (14). According to initial findings, the fifty-year-old, who lived in the town of Saint-Etienne de Fougères, was a passenger in a Willis Jeep when this vehicle, engaged in a left turn maneuver, was struck by that of a reservist police officer. .

The body of the deceased, a member of a well-known family of five children in Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot where he had worked in the carpentry company created by his father, was the subject of an autopsy. “We were only able to bury him two weeks after the events,” regrets his sister Valérie, who lives in the Poitiers region. The relative, who insists that her brother’s victim status be recognized, intends to become a civil party.

Warnings

“Like every year, he went to Calvados to attend the commemoration of the 1945 Normandy landings. There he met friends from Nantes who, like him, were passionate about the army. Our grandfather and our father were engaged in conflict zones. Thierry had been sent with his regiment to New Caledonia during the events at the Ouvéa cave. Thierry also liked restoring old vehicles. He had golden hands. It was a real passion and he was recognized for it in this department where he was even distinguished.”

There were three people, including the Lot-et-Garonnais, on board the Jeep during the collision. Thierry Olewski was ejected following the collision. “The law enforcement vehicle had activated its sound and light warnings. The investigation is entrusted to the Research Section of the Caen gendarmerie. The two drivers were negative for alcohol and narcotics,” indicated Joël Garrigue, the public prosecutor of Caen to our colleagues here.
