MotoGP Netherlands Assen J2, Luca Marini (Honda/Ab) goes up in smoke! (VIDEO)

Luca Marini didn’t even have time to say “phew” in Assen during the Sprint. Yesterday, in the short format, his bike gave up the ghost in a puff of smoke, a fairly rare sight these days. The Italian, as usual, was in a very bad position at the time of his retirement – he started 21st. This doesn’t help his case at all, because Honda uses all the sessions to test new parts, to sharpen up for the next seasons. Never mind, the Japanese will still have the whole Sunday Grand Prix to practice.

When the lights went out, a strange feeling held Luca Marini back. « At first I already felt something weird with the bike and after one lap I had to go back to the pits. I wanted to understand the recalcitrant front end, so I tried to continue but it was clear that we couldn’t do it.” he said.

The former Ducati VR46 rider wants to be reassuring about the situation.
« The team will thoroughly investigate what happened, but we already know that there will be no problems tomorrow: that’s always positive. We can learn a lot from the Sprint so in just two laps we lost some data, especially regarding the tires. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow » he added yesterday evening, at the end of the Sprint.

Clearly, his season turned into a nightmare a long time ago. Despite exemplary consistency, he still hasn’t scored a single point in the world championship,
an event even rarer than an engine failure in our time, where all drivers are very competitive.
