Death of the economist Pierre Dinan: his portrait and testimonies

The economist Pierre Dinan is no more. He died this Thursday morning June 27 at the age of 87. Pierre Dinan was married to Monique, founder of the Maternity Assistance Movement (MAM). The couple, having lived together for 55 years, had five daughters and 17 grandchildren.

“He was fine!” We went to mass at Montmartre this morning. He himself was driving the car. When we returned, we had breakfast. He then went to lie down and died about half an hour later,” Monique Dinan told defimedia.info. She adds: “He had a very beautiful death. I’m glad he didn’t suffer. »

Pierre Dinan was an essential figure on the Mauritian economic scene. He was until now a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Mauritius. He also served as a member of the board of directors and chairman of the Audit Committee of several private companies. Pierre Dinan had also been elevated to the ranks of Grand Officer and Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean.

Tributes are pouring in after the death of Pierre Dinan. PMSD leader and former Finance Minister Xavier-Luc Duval calls it a great loss for the country. He points out that Pierre Dinan’s thoughts and analyses influenced many decisions within the government and the private sector.

“Pierre Dinan was one of the great economists that this country has produced,” underlines Dan Maraye, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius and Ombudsperson for the financial services sector.

Pierre Dinan’s funeral will take place next Tuesday because three of his five daughters live abroad.
