Morocco is in mourning. Princess Lalla Latifa, mother of King Mohamed VI, died this Saturday, June 29, 2024, the Royal Palace announced in a statement.

« The spokesperson of the royal palace announces, with immense sadness and deep affliction, the death of HRH Princess Lalla Latifa, may God have her in His Holy Mercy “, is indicated in the press release distributed via the official MAP agency.

Following this announcement, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent his condolences to the King of Morocco, Mohamed VI. The text of the Head of State’s condolences was posted on the official Facebook page of the Presidency of the Republic.

« To His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Brother Morocco. I received with sadness the news of your mother’s soul being called back to God. This news, which overwhelms you and the entire royal family, has had a profound resonance.

Also, on my behalf and on behalf of the Algerian people, I address Your Majesty with my most sincere condolences, praying to the Almighty to grant the soul of the deceased His Holy Mercy and to accept it among the virtuous faithful.

HRH Lalla Latifa, 78, was the widow of the late King Hassan II, whom she married in 1961. She is the mother of the current King Mohammed VI, born in 1963, of Moulay Rachid, Lalla Meryem, Lalla Hasnaa and Lalla Asmaa.
