Trial in Reims of the murder of Lucette Dupuis: the culprit sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment

The verdict fell this Thursday, June 27. Dylan Southeny, 29, was found guilty of murder of a vulnerable person before the Marne Assize Court in Reims. On June 16, 2020, he strangled octogenarian Lucette Dupuis to death in Châlons-en-Champagne, during a burglary at his home which went wrong. Three days after the events, he came to the police station to report himself. The young man was sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment, with a 10-year safety period.

I regret terribly” declared the culprit

I would like to apologize to the family, I am terribly sorry“, Dylan Southeny said at the start of this last day of hearing. Riddled with debt, he decided to burglarize the apartment of the octogenarian, a former client for whom he did work. He says he knocked down the old lady while trying to escape. The latter would then have started to tremble on the ground. Seized with fear, he decided to strangle her with his arm, then with an electric wire.

Dylan Southeny’s ex-partner was sentenced to two years suspended prison sentence. She was found guilty of complicity in aggravated robbery. She accompanied the culprit to the scene and waited for him in his car.
