National No. 5: Fatal accident last night in Atigangomé (Adidogomé) – TOGO SCCOP

Another fatal accident on Togolese roads. This time, it is the national road No. 5 linking Lomé to Kpalimé, which is the place where the accident occurred. It must be said that this 120 km long road, under rehabilitation since June 2020 for 36 months of work, causes enormous inconvenience to users.

Today, with the work execution deadline having passed, the construction company EBOMAF’s machines are on the road blocking it in places, which slows down the flow of traffic.

From Glekopé to Kpalimé, from Gadjagan in the Agou prefecture to the descent of Gadzepé via Nyobomonou … to name just these axes, it is a real ordeal for users who use this route. The other critical point on the section is at Adidogomé where the company has set up its base. At this point, the route is blocked while the signpost is difficult to see, especially at night.

Precisely, it is at this level, at a place called Atigangomé, more precisely at the Molo-Molo crossroads, that the accident occurred on June 26, 2024 around 8:30 p.m.

A car coming from Kpalimé wanted to overtake another parked in traffic at the intersection, collided with the car which was traveling at high speed coming in the opposite direction, that is to say from Lomé. In the collusion, the two hit the parked car. The results of this accident show one dead and several injured.

There is reason to call on road users to respect the highway code, especially the speed limit in built-up areas and where to park on the road.

It is also imperative that the EBOMAF company clears its Atigangome base for greater traffic flow in order to avoid accidents which are becoming very frequent at this level.
