In Egypt, the authorities sanctioned several Travel agencies after recording more than twenty deaths during the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage. This corrective measure was announced by Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.

Deaths of pilgrims: Egypt fails several travel agencies

Egypt records more than 28 deaths during the 2024 hajj pilgrimage. This disturbing news has led Egyptian authorities to apply sanctions against several travel agencies in the country. Thus, they revoke the work licenses of 16 travel agencies and impose fines on them.

Faced with this situation, an investigation was opened. An approach which will make it possible to target agencies whose means of development is fraud. According to the facts, some agencies have been accused of deception in obtaining personal visit visas for their clients in lieu of specific visas.

For the 2024 hajj, more than 50,000 Egyptians participated in the pilgrimage. Among this large number, around 28 pilgrims died due to high temperatures of over 51.8 degrees Celsius at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. As a reminder, the Saudi Arabian authorities took stock of the number of deaths recorded on June 23.

According to the announcement made, more than 1,301 pilgrims have died on the land of Saudi Arabia. Still in the same report, it was highlighted that more than 83% of pilgrims did not obtain clearance to perform this year’s hajj, but used clandestine means to obtain the visa for this trip.
