A fire took place this Tuesday, June 25 in a building in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. 10 people were injured according to the latest report.
The fire is “definitely under control”, but the area remains cordoned off until further notice. This Tuesday, June 25, around 8:45 a.m., a fire broke out at the corner of rue du Temple and rue de la Verrerie in Paris (4th) near the Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville (BHV), confirmed the Brigade de sapeurs -Paris firefighters (BSPP) to CNEWS.
According to information provided by the BSPP, the fire started in a five-story apartment building early in the morning. Arriving on site around 9 a.m., 135 firefighters and 40 engines were mobilized to extinguish the fire which spread from the 1st to the 4th floor “because of wooden landings”.
According to the latest report communicated at the end of the day, 10 people were injured, including eight firefighters who suffered from “heat stroke” due to the size of the fire. A “burned and intoxicated” victim was treated as an “absolute emergency” and transferred to a Parisian hospital after a “scale rescue”. Another, slightly intoxicated by smoke, was treated on the spot, in “relative emergency”.
Firefighters “on watch” tonight
A BSPP spokesperson indicated that firefighters deployed ladders, baskets, fire hoses and even drones to put out the flames. The latter are now under control but the Paris firefighters will remain “on surveillance of the building all night”, to avoid a new outbreak of fire but also because “the floors” of the building threaten to collapse . The causes of the incident have not yet been communicated.
Located on the sidewalk opposite, the BHV remained closed all day but was not affected by the flames. A spokesperson for the Société des Grands Stores (SGM), the commercial real estate company that owns the brand, indicated that the store will reopen this Wednesday, for the first day of the summer sales.
