Three days after the fatal accident which occurred on Saturday June 22, 2024 at noon in Orches near Châtellerault, the investigation into involuntary homicide by the Châtellerault gendarmerie company is progressing.
Indicted for aggravated manslaughter
The alleged driver of the Audi at the origin of the violent collision against the Mazda of the Chinon Classic tourist rally has been identified by the police.
According to a source close to the case, he was first placed in police custody after his release from hospital, before being presented before the Poitiers judicial court.
The two occupants of the Audi, who took responsibility for who was driving, live in Lencloître. One, aged 26, is of Spanish nationality, born in Ecuador. The other is 35 years old. One of the two was banned from driving. They tested positive for alcohol.
The suspect, presented in court this Tuesday, was indicted for aggravated manslaughter. He was placed in pre-trial detention by the judge of freedoms and detention. The other occupant of the car is currently still hospitalized.

The destroyed car numbered 118 from the Chinon Classic (out of 240 participants) has since been in the hands of gendarmerie experts to be analyzed and understand the circumstances of this new road drama.
The investigators will use the images at their disposal in particular since the Mazda was equipped with a roadbook and especially an on-board camera (Dashcam).
