Multiple French world rally champion Sébastien Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landais were taken to hospital for examinations following a road accident during a reconnaissance before the Polish rally, their team and the local police.

“Seb and Vincent were involved in a road accident during reconnaissance for Rally Poland and were taken for medical checks”indicated the Toyota Gazoo Racing team on the social network

“The accident took place around 9:30 a.m.”near Goldap (north-east), the local police spokesperson told AFP.

“Two touring cars were on the planned rally route. In one of the cars were the driver and co-driver who are participating in the rally. In the second car was a 69-year-old driver and his 20-year-old passenger. 67 years olddeclared Tomasz Markowski without giving the identity of the two victims. They were all injured, complained of pain and were therefore all transported to hospital by medical decision.”

“The two drivers were transported to hospital by helicopter, and the passengers by ambulance”said Mr. Markowski, indicating that the police were investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Earlier in the day, a source close to the organizers, who requested anonymity, told AFP that the two pilots “had nothing, they were not injured”. “The collision occurred during a reconnaissance on a national road, while they were driving at low speed”said this source.

The Poland Rally is scheduled to take place from June 27 to 30 in the northeast of the country. Ogier, 40, and Landais, 32, are only competing in a few WRC Championship events this season. The high-Alpine driver is 4th in the general classification and won two rallies in a row in Croatia, at the end of April, and in Portugal, in mid-May.
