Catalan football is in mourning after the sudden death of Alexandre Font. From Cerdagne to Canet-en-Roussillon, via Argelès-sur-Mer, it leaves a big void.
Alexandre Font died Monday June 17, he was 38 years old. Terrible and sudden news that shook Catalan football. He had passed through FC Cerdagne where he put on his first crampons, then Perpignan-Canet FC among the youth. Captain of the 15-year-old Nationals of Alain Etcharren, coach who left his mark on him and of whom he was full of praise, then of the 18-year-old Nationals. He then played at FC Albères-Argelès as a senior, where he joined his great friend, Mickaël Gil. The central defender made more than one attacker tremble.
Alexandre loved to pass on his passion for football and after hanging up his boots, he went to the other side of the touchline. Educator first at FC Albères-Argelès, he then returned to Canet to take care of the youth teams before joining his friends at L’Indépendant Futsal as a player last season in the inter-company championship at the Complexe Sportif du Roussillon .
And wherever he went, Alex seduced people with his kindness and his curiosity. Friendly, he liked to chat with everyone. Football of course, AS Monaco in particular, of which he was a big supporter. But also each other’s journeys. A very good playmate has just left us.
