The first cargo from the Sangomar oil field is expected in early July. Annual production of 11.7 barrels of crude oil is forecast for 2024, including a volume of 4.34 million barrels intended for the domestic market.
“The start of Sangomar oil production marks a new era for the industry, the economy of our country and for the populations,” indicated the general director of the Senegal oil company (Petrosen – state enterprise) holder of 18% in the project.
This first phase, the production of which is carried out through a floating production, storage and unloading unit (Fpso), concerns 23 wells according to information from the official Petrosen website. 100 thousand barrels per day are expected for this phase of development.
The cost of the investment is estimated between 4.9 and 5.2 billion USD.
“Production of liquefied natural gas will reach 10 million tonnes per year with Phases 2 and 3,” Petrosen noted again regarding the Sangomar field.
The other major energy project for the country is the Grand Tortoise Ahmeyim (GTA) project that Senegal shares with Mauritania. Developed by British Petroleum and Kosmos Energy, its production estimated at 2.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year should start before the end of the current year.
