A powerful and very mobile storm hit several towns in the Rhône north and south of Lyon on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Several towns were hit by the storm, with heavy rain causing flooding and hail.

At the end of the afternoon, the Tony-Bertrand swimming pool on the banks of the Rhône in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon even had to be urgently evacuated due to a sudden storm and a veritable curtain of rain.

Falling trees, flooded roads, torn tiles…

From north to south, the municipalities of Saint-Georges de Reneins, on the A450 towards Orlienas, Belleville en Beaujolais, Villefranche-sur-Saône, Vourles, Chessy, Chasselay, Belleville-sur-Saône, Vernaison, Ternay were affected by the flood. Rain and hail fell in significant quantities.

Trees fell on a departmental road, tiles and roofs were torn off in Serpaize. According to our information, the firefighters carried out some interventions in Communay and Sérézin-du-Rhône for material damage.

More severe thunderstorms expected through Saturday

New violent storms are likely to hit the Rhône department until Saturday afternoon, according to Météo-France. The department is placed on yellow storm alert.
