A very rare golden lobster, caught by a family this summer on the island of Ouessant off the coast of Finistère, will be studied in the United States, reports, Saturday November 16, France Bleu Breizh Izel.
“My companion was lucky enough to catch one on August 5 at the tip of Pern”says Ondine Morin, Ouessantine, who recalls that this lobster is very rare “since we think there is one in 30 million”. “There are electric blue lobsters and albino lobsters”continues the mother, “but the golden lobster is the rarest and it’s the one we caught.”
For three months, the family has been taking care of this lobster: “We pampered him with a swimming pool of 600 liters of water. We gave him something to eat. One of our children got attached to it.” After doing research, the family decided to entrust the crustacean to the Trégastel aquarium, in Côtes-d'Armor, for a molt under supervision. “The molt must take place this winter. Its shell will be shipped to the United States, to Maine, to a professor who works precisely on these lobsters. The question is whether there are more of them with global warming.” After molting, the golden lobster will be transported to the Audierne aquarium (Finistère).
