We are at the crossroads of the French tomato campaigns: “many producers are about to end their season”, indicates a professional in the sector. “Prices are around 1.80 euros/kilo for grape tomatoes, 1.50 euros/kilo for the round one and 1.80 euros/kilo for the fleshy one. We could sell more expensively, but the French market has enough volume, which prevents prices from rising. Also note a disparity in quality at the end of the campaign, which results in a price varying greatly between the different lots.”

Prices described as “correct”, even if they remain below border production: “The French market is not the one where the price of tomatoes is the highest in Europe at the moment. The Dutch and Belgians do not have a lot of volume, so prices are more sustained, around 2.20 euros/kilo for the bunch. As for the Spanish origin, it has not yet arrived in France because internal consumption remains present and the product is better valued for export. We therefore have a French market which is not overloaded with imported tomatoes.”
A transition which is also taking place on the consumption side: “There are very few organized promotions. Some producers have harvested the first tomatoes of their new harvest but they remain in limited quantities. We are clearly in the swing between summer/autumn consumption and winter consumption with therefore less demand.”
