A scam is developing again in many municipalities located around Dijon. The Côte-d’Or gendarmerie has launched an alert about people posing as water officials with the aim of stealing from local residents.
It is a process which has developed in recent days in the sector of Clénay or Brétigny (Côte-d’Or), two towns located around ten kilometers from Dijon: individuals pose as agents of the ‘water. They come to your home or contact you by phone claiming that the water has been contaminated and that they need to carry out checks.
This is a scam well known to the police and gendarmerie services in the region. In 2023, Odivea, the service provider that manages water sanitation in the metropolis, was already warning of the increase in impostors posing as agents in order to enter victims’ homes and burglarize them.
The gendarmerie and the various town halls point out that water officials do not proceed in this way. They also gave advice to residents.
- Remember to check the map of the agents who come to your home. Some, like those from Odivea, have official name badges with their ID photos.
- Do not hesitate to contact your water provider or your town hall to check the quality of your water.
- More generally, the gendarmerie advises you never to let people into your home without checking, not to remain isolated, and to contact 17 without delay to report any incident.
