On November 4, at 8 a.m., the president of Canal+, André Rousselet, pressed the red button in the control room and launched the encrypted channel which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Five days after its launch, the “cinema channel” took its first step into , on November 9, 1984, by broadcasting the -Monaco (1-0) poster.

Two teams which had won five of the last ten national titles: 1978 and 1982 for AS Monaco; 1977, 1980 and 1983 for the Canaries.

A month earlier, Canal+ had acquired 20 posters of the French championship for the season, at a rate of 250,000 francs per match, from the Professional Football League.

To comment on this first meeting, a duo of future and influence: Michel Denisot and Charles Bietri.

In the 58th minute, Vahid Halilhodzic's header, on a pass from the brilliant José Touré, scored the only goal of the match in a season that Monaco finished in 3rd place, behind and Nantes.
