According to a recent survey carried out by the “Sunergia” institute, which specializes in market research, 83% of respondents expressed concerns about the rise in prices of food and basic necessities over the last three months. While 9% of respondents believe that prices have remained stable, a minority (2%) note a drop in the prices of certain products during the same period.

This continued rise in prices considerably affects the purchasing power of Moroccan households, the survey notes. The products most affected, according to those interviewed, are red meats, both fresh and frozen. The increase in prices of this product could be explained by the increase in transport costs and the increase in the price of livestock feed. The respondents hope that prices will soon stabilize.

To stem the crisis, the government ensures that it is taking measures to regulate the markets. These include subsidizing certain basic necessities and strengthening monitoring of supply chains. Some observers say it will be difficult to control prices, as rising commodity prices on the global market are reflected in domestic prices.
