An accident at the intersection of rue Marié-Davy and avenue de la République in Clamecy

The refusal of priority could have had disastrous consequences for the young driver of an Audi, struck this Tuesday, June 18, around 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.

This will give food for thought to the mayor of Clamecy, Nicolas Bourdoune, in his desire to close the bottom of rue Marié-Davy, a decision announced during the last municipal council and maintained during his meeting with traders despite strong protests of the latter.

It was 1:30 p.m. this Tuesday, June 18 when a Citroën Berlingo vehicle registered in Côte-d’Or which was traveling on Avenue de la République did not respect the priority on the right. The collision was very violent with an Audi vehicle registered in Nièvre and which was arriving from rue Marié-Davy. The young driver of the Audi was saved by his airbag which was triggered immediately.

The driver of the Citroën vehicle, at fault, admitted “that he had not been paying attention”. The Citroën Berlingot vehicle did not respect right priority.

No injuries were reported. The national gendarmerie went to the scene to carry out the usual reports, as did the municipal police. Traffic was reduced to one lane while awaiting the intervention of a tow truck. The German brand vehicle could not be moved.

Present on the scene, Mayor Nicolas Bourdoune underlines the need to secure this axis as quickly as possible, many dangerous facts, including refusals of priority, having been reported in the past. “Even those who have the right of way always stop there to make sure they can get through,” he says.

The operator of the bar Le Commerce claims for his part to have witnessed other events including “traffic in the wrong direction in the middle of the night to reach Place Émile-Zola”.

The closure of the lower part of the street is planned for the end of June as part of an experiment which remains highly contested.
