Between reports of surface rust, warped panels coming out of the factory, or windshield wiper blade recalls, it’s easy to forget just how rugged Tesla’s Cybertruck is.

In what may be one of the first direct collisions of a Cybertruck with another passenger vehicle recorded by Tesla’s camera, a Toyota Camry learned the hard way.

As it exited an intersection, the Camry was a little too optimistic for a left turn, exposing its front end to the Cybertruck’s bumper.

Yes, the bumper, because it barely got a scratch, while the Camry’s front end was crumpled as expected, despite the relatively low speeds of both vehicles.

Needless to say, it’s fortunate that no one was injured, as this predictable outcome would likely occur with any other large pickup truck. The Cybertruck has been deemed so contrary to Tesla’s original credo that the striking similarities to accidents involving internal combustion engine trucks continue to draw attention.

After all, that’s how Elon Musk positions the Cybertruck: a big, bad, combustion-engined pickup for off-road work and play, and the electric pickup delivers on its promises, even in road crashes with smaller vehicles.

The Cybertruck passed crash tests with flying colors, and before it went on sale, Elon Musk boasted that it could be the safest truck ever built per mile driven. Tesla argued that it was also safer for pedestrians, comparing its sloping hood to the front wall of a Ford F-150, for example.

However, the danger the Cybertruck poses to pedestrians and other road users due to its aggressive bodywork is the reason why it cannot be sold in Europe.

Recently, Elon suggested that Tesla would have to upgrade to a “worse” design in order to sell it in Europe next year, but he didn’t specify whether this would simply be a matter of rounding out the corners or of a deeper redesign, including a smaller size more suited to European tastes.
