In Laval (Mayenne), the summer theme will be the Olympic Games and sport.

A dip in the swimming pools of Laval

“We invite you to literally dive into Laval swimming pools and bathing places, via an exhibition at Bains-Douches retracing their history since the 19th century.e century “, explains Amélie de Sercey-Granger, mediator at Laval patrimoine, the city’s mediation and heritage service.

On the program: sound showers, videos, “games to immerse yourself”… But also night-time events with testimonies from people who knew the viaduct swimming pool (closed in 1992), or the French championships in Saint-Nicolas in 1978! (July 23 and August 27, at 8:30 p.m., free, by reservation at 02 53 74 12 20) Commented kayak descents of the Mayenne are also planned semi-nightly, “to follow in the footsteps of Laval swimming pools”, July 30 and August 13, at 8:30 p.m. (free, by reservation at 02 53 74 12 20).

From July 2 to August 31, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (except Sunday morning), exhibition “Memories of water: history of Laval swimming pools” at Bains-Douches. Free.

Sports demonstrations from the 17th centurye century

Several companies will offer, on several dates, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., sports games, “as they were practiced in the 17the century “ (free admission).

The Écuyers de l’Histoire will thus carry out dressage demonstrations (July 18 and August 8, in the Perrine garden); the Lames de Sévigné fencing (July 25, at the Jardin de la Perrine); and the Braello Archery Companions (the 1is August, at the Anne-d’Alègre promenade).

“Golden women” highlighted

Every year, Laval heritage offers a temporary exhibition on the first floor of the Alain-Gerbault space, in the Perrine garden. This summer, “We wanted to look back over 100 years of Olympic destinies, highlighting women who have won medals, or not yet, or who have had a very particular destiny,” presents Amélie de Sercey-Granger.

With the help of drawings by illustrator Vincent Landais, the stories of twelve women will be retraced, some of whom are from Mayenne: Sounkamba Sylla, Heïdi Gaugain, Manuela Montebrun, etc.

From July 2 to August 31, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (except Sunday morning), exhibition “Women in gold: Olympic destinies” at the Espace Alain-Gerbault (free).
