Title contender, England made a successful debut at Euro 2024. Without impressing in the game, the Three Lions beat Serbia 1-0 on Sunday, on the first day in Gelsenkirchen and took sole lead of Group B , taking advantage of the draw between Denmark and Slovenia (1-1) earlier in the day.

After a short observation round, the Three Lions quickly took the lead. Launched on the right, Bukayo Saka saw his cross blocked but Jude Bellingham followed well to place a snarling header into the top corner of the Serbian goalkeeper (13th). The English were cautious afterwards and former Anderlecht player Aleksandar Mitrovic narrowly missed the equalizer (20th), with a shot off target (20th). For the English, Kyle Walker made the difference on the right but lacked lucidity when finishing (25th).

Returning from the locker room, Serbia played a step higher but lacked precision in their passes to worry the English. They controlled the match without creating any more chances, apart from a header from Harry Kane at close range on Predrag Rajkovic, which deflected onto the bar (77th). The Three Lions fell back in the last ten minutes and Dusan Vlahovic notably forced Jordan Pickford into a good save (82nd).

Earlier, Denmark and Slovakia shared the points (1-1). These two results therefore allow England to take sole lead of the group with three points.
