Chambly: Catherine Bérubé wins a trophy at the ACTRA Awards

Chambly actress Catherine Bérubé won an award during the 14e edition of the ACTRA Awards, in Montreal, thanks to the film Snow Angel, which she co-produced.

It was in the “Remarkable Performance” category that the actress was rewarded. In her 20-year career, this is a first trophy for her. “It’s a great recognition. We are very proud of it,” underlines Ms. Bérubé.

The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) is a union representing professional artists in Canada who work in the country’s English-language recorded media. Catherine Bérubé studied three years in English at Dawson College, in theater. She began acting in English before gradually turning to French-speaking productions. It was in front of a room full of long-time acquaintances that she stood up to collect the honorary statuette. “People with whom I broke ground in my very early days. Coming from my gangit’s all the more fun,” says the Chamblyenne.

From work to home

Gabriel Allard notably directed Snow Angel. He is the spouse of Catherine Bérubé. The actress showed her gratitude and shared this victory with him.

“Obviously, this trophy belongs to him too. Without him, this film does not exist. It was his idea,” she says. Note that Gabriel Allard is also co-producer and co-writer of the work.

She and he worked closely on the project. “We work really well together. We’re a good team,” agrees the actress. They brought work home. “We’re not getting out of this, that’s for sure. That’s good, we work from home. Sometimes we would go out and try not to talk about kids or movies. It’s difficult, but that’s the way it is when you’re two enthusiasts,” notes Ms. Bérubé. She also adds that they are “starting” to miss a common project.

An independent production

The movie Snow Angel is an independent production which took shape during a process spanning around ten years. The psychological thriller was financed mainly by private investors and thanks to the participation of a large part of the film crew. The production budget is approximately $500,000.

Premiered during the closing night of the 11e edition of the Quebec City Cinema Festival in September 2022, Snow Angel was released in theaters in January 2023. The film was shot in Gaspésie, in Cap-Chat.
