LAS VEGAS — Since the Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia fight week kickoff press conference in Las Vegas last month, Gervonta Davis has been determined to show the world what he sees as Frank Martin’s many weaknesses.

Last May, during a particularly heated media event Boxing News Present at the MGM Grand, “Tank” Davis pointed a stiff finger at Martin and shouted, in full view, “You don’t like body shots!” »

He then took out his cell phone and forced Martin to watch footage of alleged fights involving both of them.

Davis, apparently, wanted to give the impression to the media that this was a clip in which we can see how vulnerable Martin is when receiving punishing blows to the midsection. At least that’s how Martin sees it.

“He didn’t show me anything,” he said Boxing News and other reporters after a workout at the Pound For Pound gym in Las Vegas last week. “He let it out to the media as if he was showing me footage of us fighting.

“But the video in his phone that he showed didn’t show us throwing punches, it was more like wrestling. Without exchanging blows. None of that.”

Martin said that if the footage showed weaknesses, then the media “would have seen it by now.” “He just wanted to put it out there like it was a thing,” the 29-year-old told us. “That’s who he is. He’s trying to convince you.

Fast forward five days and Davis is up to the same old tricks as he goes through a list of things that he believes make Martin weak.

This included things like: how scared he looked during Wednesday’s press conference at the MGM Grand; how he has a “fake” foot movement; and that he is a mediocre opponent. Davis even chastised Martin for being from “the suburbs.”

“When he got there [on stage], he was shaking,” Davis said. “He was shaking a little. He spoke a little loudly yesterday, but today he’s trembling there as he speaks.

Davis, also 29, continued to belittle Martin. “What are you bringing to the table that I haven’t seen?” »

Things got more heated after 30 minutes of press when Martin provided his version of their infamous workout and said, “He was cut, grabbed and his legs shook.”

Davis raised his voice and almost jumped out of his chair. “You didn’t cut me!” He protested. “You caught me with a bang.

“You don’t even hit that hard, bro!” I will break you! I promise you,” he said before placing himself on the side of the stage where Martin was, as if to intimidate him.

Martin, who kept his cool over Davis, finished: “[The fight] can descend as he wishes. If he comes in and acts, you’ll see him get knocked out. Power, this and that… if he acts crazy, he’ll sleep.

On Saturday, Davis will have the opportunity to show the world what he has been talking about publicly for the past month: that Martin is scared, that he is vulnerable to body shots and that he has questionable footwork.

The duo headline a Premier Boxing Champions event on Prime Video and PPV.com, following a chief support fight at light heavyweight between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
