The Société du domaine Maizerets is celebrating its 40th anniversary in collaboration with Jazz en Juin, through a vibrant and free outdoor program starting today until June 30.

As part of this anniversary, Jazz en Juin and the Société du Domaine Maizerets are inaugurating “La petite école du jazz”, a family meeting place where children, but also the very curious, can experiment with different instruments with Jazzy Mama. Every day from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Karine Champagne aka Jazzy Mama introduces children (accompanied by their parents) to vocal and sound improvisation using technology to build loops: the LOOPER. Karine draws inspiration from the participants’ ideas to build a work that will be recorded in the loop machine to become a unique and fun musical piece!

Until Sunday, a host of shows take place in the enchanting setting of the Domaine de Maizerets. Each day is defined according to a particular theme and offers its share of music from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. or 11 p.m.

Thursday June 27: Jazz discovery

  • Geneviève Jodoin and Zénon Boudreault: The exceptional musician is getting back into jazz thanks to her son Zénon, a 16-year-old virtuoso pianist who has jazz in his blood.
  • Enya Lemoine Fusion Quartet: Composed of Enya Lemoine, Samuel Thériault, Emmanuel Bérubé-Simard and Kévyn-Mark Jomphe Lévesque, the Enya Lemoine Fusion Quartet will bring a colorful moment to life with their vibrant repertoire. All students at Laval University, this up-and-coming group based in Quebec will present their original compositions as well as some jazz fusion-flavored covers inspired by the greatest.
  • Modulix trio invites Sandrine Lévesque: The jazz group Modulix trio from Quebec draws its originality from an all-electric sound and musical pieces where traditional and modern jazz styles intermingle.

Friday June 28: Swing and dance in the spotlight!Bosko Baker: A New Orleans vibe invites you to dance! Originally from the Midwest, raised in Nashville and spending time in New Orleans and eventually Quebec, Bosko Baker has sung on the streets from one end of the continent to the other.

Saturday June 29: Large groups

  • From Quebec Pulsart’kestra: The core of Pulsart Trio has the pleasure of being accompanied by six of the best musicians on the Quebec jazz scene: André Larue, Aaron Wolf and Clémentine Cassignard on saxophones, Didier Archambault on guitar, Carl Mayotte on electric bass and Dayron Luis San Juan Muguercia on percussion.
  • Two international headliners are invited on stage to the great delight of the spectators:
    • NE Steam is a Belgian group that mixes jazz, funk and hip-hop. Initiated by pianist Igor Gehenot and guitarist Fabrizio Graceffa, the main composers of the repertoire, the group is made up of eight members in total.
    • Huntertones is a band based in Brooklyn, New York. Their high-energy, brass-driven sound is characterized by genre-bending compositions and unconventional covers.

Sunday June 30: Tributes day

  • Ginette Paradis sings and tells stories from Sylvain… to Lelièvre: Ginette Paradis is the first artist to dedicate a complete solo show to him. She also recorded a virtual duet with him on the piece “Qu’est-ce qu’on a fait de nos rêves?”.
  • Java jazz: Singer Stéphanie Laliberté and guitarist François Rioux revisit some great classics of French song by giving them a gypsy jazz flavor. Accompanied by double bassist Alex Morissette and violinist Sylvain Neault, they summon the big names Aznavour, Piaf, Brassens, Vian, Gainsbourg and Lrand.
  • Lucibel: The dazzling Cape Verdean singer enchants world stages with her captivating voice. Heir to Cesária Évora, she revives the morna and the coladeira, emblematic music of her native island.

Other outdoor stages will delight connoisseurs, amateurs, neophytes and families, such as the Ephemeral Stage in Sainte-Foy on Saturday June 29, from 4:30 p.m. This scene is set up at the intersection of Chemin Sainte-Foy and Avenue Marguerite-Bourgeois. Without forgetting the new Laurier Jazz Club and the lively terrace on Grande Allée which has been a great success this year, open every day from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with bar service.

  • Gabi Hartmann June 29 at the Grand Théâtre de Québec;
