The verdict fell on Wednesday June 12 in the evening. Teimouraz Khatifyan was sentenced to twenty years in prison for the murder of his 21-year-old son Valiko. The Georgian father, aged 49, was tried on June 11 and 12 before the Maine-et-Loire Assize Court for the assassination which occurred on February 21, 2021 in the grandparents’ apartment located at 7 rue Martin Luther-King in Angers.
The crime was committed with a kitchen knife in the presence of the accused’s parents. The latter immediately went to the police station but denied having killed his son in a spirit of revenge towards his wife who had asked him for divorce after a series of domestic violence.
“Not a thoughtful project”
According to the grandmother who witnessed the scene, Teimouraz Khatifyan could not have tolerated that his eldest son forbade him from permanently seeing his second son, then 5 years old. After two days of debate, the Court finally ruled out the premeditated nature of the gesture. It has not been established that Mr. Khatifyan had a thoughtful and mature project. It was an angry reaction.
, explains Me Sébastien Naudin, lawyer for the accused. An additional sentence of permanent ban from French territory was also imposed.
