He will not be judged. This Sunday, June 9, Ulysse Borysse was found dead in his cell in the Caen remand center. Aged 55, the man had been incarcerated there since his indictment on January 25, 2024, for the murder of his wife Magali Barbu, in Bretoncelles (Orne, Normandy). A crime that he admits to, explaining that he killed him with his hunting rifle.

One bullet was enough to hit his neck and throat on the evening of Monday January 22. According to him, he then attempted suicide, but in vain. Wounded in the cheek, he returns home after his crime to hide his wife’s body in a large bag before putting her in his van, parked in front of their house.

Bretoncelles, a village haunted by tragedies

When she died, Magali weighed only 35kg. An alcoholic, his partner made his life hell, forbidding him from everything, even from sleeping in the marital bed. She then spent her nights on the sofa with their dogs. While he risked life imprisonment, the suicide of Ulysse Borysse led to the extinction of the legal action. In Bretoncelles, this femicide is yet another tragedy. This small Norman village of 1,500 inhabitants seems to be experiencing a dark series of tragedies with 12 words in terrible circumstances in 13 years.

The day Magali died, the police called Daniel Chevée, the town mayor. An exchange he recounted to one of our reporters: “The major told me: ‘There is a homicide in your town. It’s still your place.” Is his village cursed? ” I hope not…he told us. But I live with a sword of Damocles hanging over my head. I wonder every day what will happen next.”. Before listing the sad memories he will keep from his mandate: “Camille, Albertine, Magali, this family decimated by fire… I will never be able to forget them”.
