Deprived of a draw last Saturday at Sclessin following a refereeing error, Saint-Trond will file an official complaint with the URBSFA. But, since the “penaltygate” affair between Anderlecht and Genk last season, the possibility of replaying a match no longer exists.
A legal battle has broken out over the question of replaying the match between Standard and Sint-Truiden. To avoid similar problems in the future, CEO Lorin Parys has decided that matches will never be replayed again, even in the event of refereeing errors. So, even if Sint-Truiden can express its grievances, the result will not be changed.
The Canaries’ complaint is prepared by technical director André Pinto, president David Meekers and lawyer Kristof De Saedeleer.
The leaders of Sint-Truiden have worked in recent days on the legal details of the complaint to thoroughly justify it. As of Wednesday, the complaint had not yet been received by the URBSFA, although Sint-Truiden has seven days after the match to file it.
This gives the club time to refine its complaint and explore options for a positive outcome. Once the complaint is ready, lawyer De Saedeleer will send it to the URBSFA.
Within the Belgian union, the Arbitration Department will handle the complaint, because the problem concerns arbitration. Head referee Kevin Van Damme, along with his assistants and the VAR team, all contributed to the disputed decision. A year and a half ago, Sint-Truiden had already filed a complaint against the arbitration, which resulted in a private meeting between the club and the Refereeing Department.
