This year, the Department of Creuse launched a residency program, PlumeS, which aims to support an author in the writing process by offering them two periods of residency.

Helping and encouraging emerging authors in their writing process is the aim of this new residency created this year by the Department called PlumeS. With a capital S because there will be other residences, therefore other authors' pens. For this first edition, the chosen theme is that of imaginative literature. A choice also made to resonate with the Prix des Imaginaires, supported by librarian teachers in Creuse high schools and colleges.

A time for yourself and to share

Among fourteen applications, the author selected for this first edition is Elisa Beiram. Still a young author, she has already published two works. This residency will allow him to think about a third, already well in mind, which will also be drawn from an imaginary universe. This residence time is important for the author, confident that:

“It’s also an opportunity for me to learn my skills”

Because in this residence she must give 30% of her time for meetings and exchanges with the public. Moments of immersion and mediation that she is particularly looking forward to, to consider reproducing them at home, in Lozère. Coming from the countryside, the change of scenery will not be total for her in Creuse.

The importance of this residence is that in addition to being housed, the author is paid. It is difficult to make a living from the world of writing because authors receive a very small percentage of their works sold. “But when you do a residency, you really get paid to write, it’s really precious,” enthuses Elisa Beiram. Part of the literature of the imagination, she explains that:

“We can imagine everything possible with them, it leaves a lot more room for creativity”

Immersed in this universe since she was very young as a reader, Elisa Beiram's pen and sensitivity could only be cut out for it. “And as I consider that all work is political, it is easier to put messages in these literatures” confides the young author.

Explore the imagination

“Exploring these literatures is interesting because they are very popular, if only through cinema, comics, etc.” explains Agnès Rouet, head of the adult sector at the departmental library. Highly popularized, these literatures are also intergenerational, Agnès Rouet and Natacha Pégand, head of the teen sector at the departmental library, are delighted:

“They make it possible to connect the adult, youth and adolescent sectors at the same time”

Considered as a demanding literature like any other, the imagination has very precise codes and references, and “what interested us was the popular side and the demanding side,” explains Agnès Rouet. “It is also said that young people no longer read, but those who do, read a lot of this literature. »

This PlumeS residency will allow Elisa Beiram to refine her universe and share it with the Creusois during two periods of residence, next March and May. This PlumeS system should welcome an author on a chosen theme every two years.
