After the meeting on Tuesday, November 5 with the municipality of Carcassonne, the traders of Lac de la Cavayère were received by the president of the Agglo, Régis Banquet.
This Thursday, November 7, Régis Banquet, president of Carcassonne Agglo, which is in charge of the management of Lac de la Cavayère, received the traders of Carcassonne Plage, who are very worried about the future. For many weeks, the body of water has been emptying visibly, due to the operation of a reserve valve placed below the dam, which lets several liters of water pass through per second. Without rain, and while the stream upstream is not keeping pace, the lake is shrinking a little more every day.
The association of lake traders therefore needs answers, and above all, solutions. However, at the end of this meeting, Cyrille Doray, manager of the Aquaviva park, appeared “optimistic. The Agglo has shown itself to be sensitive to our cause, and to listen. We are more confident for the future”.
So what was said during this interview to reassure the water park manager to this extent?
“We have been in contact with the State since spring 2023, so a year and a half ago. We made several proposals, but each time faced a refusal to close the valve, at least temporarily, for reasons of ecological continuity”explained Régis Banquet this Thursday evening. However, the tide would be turning: “For some time now, we have found a more attentive ear to this problem. And we have proposed other solutions, for which we should have a response in the coming days, we were told”adds the president of the Agglo. Among the proposals, closing the valve seasonally, between late spring and early fall, to preserve the body of water during the summer season. “Or even lower the flow rate of the valve to stay around 2 liters of water per second”specifies Régis Banquet, who hopes to have a solution in place by the end of November.
