Vietnam wins two gold medals at the 2024 Muay Thai World Championships

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Muay Thai team won two gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals, placing 9th overall at the IFMA Muay Thai World Championships. These championships were held from May 31 to June 10 in Patras, Greece, with 93 national teams competing.

June 9 marked the end of competitions for the Vietnamese team.

One of Vietnam’s two gold medals was won by Huynh Ha Huu Hieu after her 2-1 victory against Russian Sofia Istratova, after three rounds (10-9, 10-9 and 9-10). This was also the third time Huynh Ha Huu Hieu won gold at the world championships, after 2019 and 2021.

The other gold medal was won by Tran Thi Tuyet Anh in the women’s under 75 kg under 23 (U23) category. The young Vietnamese beat the Emirati Salama Aljneibi 3-0 (10-9, 10-9 and 10-9).

The Vietnamese team also obtained seven silver medals thanks to Nguyen Doan Long (men, under 63.5 kg), Le Hoang Duc (men, -48 kg), Hoang Thi Thu (women, -71kg), Bui Hai Linh (women, -51kg), Nguyen Thi Chieu (women, -57kg), Mai Hoang Khanh (women, -45kg) in the under-23 age group.

The bronze medals were obtained by Ta Thi Kim Yen (women, -48kg), Nguyen Thi Hien Luong (women, -54kg), Nguyen Thi Huong (women, -63.5kg), Duong Duc Bao (men, -48kg ) in the age group under 23 years.

In the performance category, the Vietnamese team won a silver medal thanks to Hoang Dinh Manh, as well as four bronze medals thanks to Le Hoang Duc, Han Thi Thuy, Nguyen Thi Chieu, Nguyen Hoang Minh.

At this tournament, Russia took first place with 14 gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals. -VNA
