Drug trafficking no longer spares Brittany. Established in the metropolis of Rennes, it has prospered in medium-sized cities such as Brest, Vannes and Lorient over the last four years. It even affects small towns like Guingamp, Morlaix or Concarneau.
If mules from French Guiana still transport drugs to the tip of Brittany, the sea route is now favored by drug traffickers: 85% of cocaine from South America enters France through ports.
In 2023, record seizures have multiplied in those of Brittany, as in Lorient. With its 2,730 kilometers of coastline and its 140 ports, much less secure than the hubs of Northern Europe (Antwerp or Le Havre) where drugs arrive in containers, the region offers a more secure plan B for drug trafficking.
