European elections: participation up significantly compared to 2019

On the occasion of these elections to designate MEPs, 49.5 million voters are called to the polls in France to decide between the thirty-eight lists which presented themselves for this ballot – a record. Israel announces the release of four hostages during a deadly “special operation” in the Gaza Strip

The Israeli army announced on Saturday that it had freed several hostages during a “special operation” in the center of the Gaza Strip, an area targeted by intense bombardments for several days. They are Noa Argamani, 25, Almog Meir Jan, 21, Andrey Kozlov, 27, and Shlomi Ziv, 40, all four kidnapped from the site of the Tribe of Nova rave party on October 7, 2023 , according to the army. The hostages were ” helped “ in two different locations in Nousseirat, according to the Israeli army.

At least 274 Palestinians were killed and around 700 others injured during the Israeli raid which rescued four hostages held by Hamas, the Gaza health ministry said on Sunday. For its part, the Israeli police announced the death of an agent in this operation.

A new victim of the crisis in Nouméa. One of the two men shot by gendarmes on Monday June 3 in New Caledonia died from his injuries on Friday, Yves Dupas, the public prosecutor of Nouméa, announced on Saturday. This brings the number of deaths since the start of the unrest in the archipelago to eight.

The two men, who were part of a group that opened fire on gendarmes, were shot and wounded by the latter north of Nouméa, announced Mr. Dupas. The person who died on Friday is a 26-year-old man, living at Col de la Pirogue, and injured in the head by a ballistic projectile, according to the prosecutor.
