French citizens are called to the polls today to elect their European deputies. The first results are expected at 8 p.m.
At noon, the participation rate stood at 19.81% nationally, according to the Ministry of the Interior. This is a little more than in 2019 (50.12%) but much more than in 2014 (42.43%).
In Aisne, this rate is 13.78%. Contrary to the national trend, this is much less than in 2019 (20.91% at the same time).
In the North, 18.8% voted (compared to 17.68% in 2019).
In Seine-Maritime, at noon, 21.04% of voters slipped their ballot into the ballot box (19.97% in 2019).
This direct universal ballot in one round should make it possible to elect the 720 deputies (including 81 French) who will sit in Parliament for the next five years.
Thirty-eight lists compete. Only lists which obtain more than 5% of the votes will be able to send a deputy to Parliament in Strasbourg.
Polling stations will close at 6 p.m. in small towns, at 8 p.m. in large cities.
