This Sunday, June 9, Météo France placed several departments on alert due to severe weather conditions. In the southwest, Hautes-Pyrénées, Gers and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are under yellow alert for floods, thunderstorms and rain-flooding, while Haute-Garonne is on yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain-flooding. In the south-east, the departments of Vaucluse, Gard, Haute-Loire, Ardèche, Drôme and Isère have been placed on orange alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The region is currently influenced by a warm and humid air mass. This instability is exacerbated by an altitude depression coming from Spain, creating conditions conducive to heavily rainy storms in the southwest of the country.

  • Montreal (Gers) : 89.2 mm of rain
  • Condom (Gers) : 49.5 mm of rain
  • Lomné (Hautes-Pyrénées) : 54.4 mm of rain

Over the last few hours, the weather has become dry again in these departments, allowing a temporary calm.

  • Urgons (Landes) : 135.4 mm of rain

Thunderstorms

An intense stormy episode is forecast for this afternoon in the Rhône valley and Haute-Loire. These storms will be accompanied by heavy precipitation and significant electrical activity. Local accumulations of 80 to 100 mm are expected in a short time, which requires particular vigilance.

Rain and flood risks

Intense rain observed last night in the southwest and expected today in the southeast poses an increased risk of flooding, particularly in areas already affected by previous storms. Local authorities recommend staying informed and taking necessary steps to protect yourself.

Precautionary Measures

Faced with these difficult weather conditions, Météo France reiterates the importance of following safety instructions and remaining vigilant, in particular:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel to affected areas.
  • Do not drive onto flooded roads.
  • Secure property likely to be damaged by bad weather.
  • Follow updates and recommendations from local authorities.
